Wolfman: A Review
« on: February 13, 2010, 06:22:45 PM »
I saw "The Wolfman" today and it was excellent.

It's based on the original classic  movie, and contains many of the same characters.  Most of the story is similar, too.  Lawrence Talbot returns home to Talbot Hall after being gone for many years.  His brother's fiance had written to him, telling him that his brother was missing.  Upon his arrival, he learned from his father, Sir John Talbot, that his brother is dead.

Larry decides to remain at Talbot Hall despite his problems with Sir John because he wants to know how his brother died.  As in the original, Larry is bitten by a werewolf.  However, the identity of the werewolf is different--and a mystery until near the end of the film.  No, it's not Bela the Gypsy as it was in the first film.  Maleva, the gypsy woman, is in this movie, however.

Larry transforms into a werewolf as well, and begins a reign of terror in the village.

Benico Del Toro is ok as Larry, but seemed rather wooden at times.  Anthony Hopkins is great as Sir John, and Emily Blunt does a good job as the fiance of Ben Talbot who begins to fall in love with the cursed Larry.

There's a good ending to it, and a great battle at the end.  It's an R rated film so don't take the kids, OK?  Too graphic and gory for them.

Will there be a sequel?  Well, we all know that movie monsters have a way of returning to life even after being destroyed.

Wow.  The Wolfman really tore into people, didn't he?
